The decoration traces the different stages of the history of Sri Lanka and the family of the owner. The mansion is beautiful with all these courtyards, good size rooms and immaculate. The meals are delicious and homemade from the garden produce. You can also visit the park with plantations of spices and trees and shrubs of all kinds. We will gladly come back.

There are many claimed Walauwwa’s in Sri Lanka, some with history, some with heritage and some operating as boutique hotels. The difference with Eladetta is that it is a fully working Walauwwa complete with a manor house seeped in history and heritage, a large “Walauw Watta” surrounding the manor, its own paddy fields, and a fully functional buddhist temple donated and upkept by the owners of the Walauwwa. If you want to experience a proper functional Kandyan Walauwwa, look no further. Eladetta is the real deal.

Well, Sunethra, What can we say but extend a huge huge THANK YOU to yourself for arranging this wonderful experience to see your ancestral home and meet with Amitha and Dewaki. And a huge thank you to them as well, for such an unforgettable welcome, a fantastic lunch and excellent tour of the gardens - the house at Handessa is a well kept secret.....but in saying that what a wonderful place to stay and I do hope their homestay plans work out because it really is exceptional. Anyone staying here would agree. As an artist, I could well see myself ensconced there for a good wee while and paint and draw to my hearts content. I had art workshops and botanical illustration workshops going through my brain while walking through the gardens.....

From here, I take it that lots of day trips to points of interest in the area could be taken. What a lovely couple, and, it I hope we have an opportunity in future to get to know them better, even plan a homestay with them when next we come to Sri Lanka. This really was such a highlight to our tour. Many many thanks once again. Thank you for everything.
